Work on home by Lumbee Tribe draws complaints
Monday, October 20, 2003

Officials in Hoke County, North Carolina, are threatening to sue the Lumbee Tribe for work done on a tribal member's home.

The county says most of the work was not performed to permit. Shirley Bullard, 58, agrees the work was shoddy and says the tribe failed to fix a problem with the septic tank, the original reason she asked for assistance.

The tribe uses federal funds from Department of Housing and Urban Development for its housing program. According to The Fayetteville Observer, the tribe received more than $10.3 million this year.
