Tlingit Tribe taking 'Teddy' totem pole back home
Monday, October 20, 2003

A delegation of 19 members of the Tlingit Tribe of Alaska will reclaim a totem pole taken from their village nearly 100 years ago.

The totem pole tells the history of the Bear Clan and has been on display at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley since 1914. It was called "Totem Teddy" and inspired the school's team mascot.

The condition of the pole has deteriorated over time due to student vandalism.
