Civil rights panel wraps up hearings on health
Monday, October 20, 2003

The U.S. Commission on Civil Right held public briefings and hearings last week to address Indian health care.

The panel took testimony and heard presentations during a field visit to New Mexico. Indian Health Service (IHS) director Dr. Charles Grim acknowledged that the agency is underfunded, according to the Associated Press.

The commission toured an IHS facility in Gallup on Thursday and held a hearing in Albuquerque on Friday.
