Dene First Nations weigh development of lands

The four Deh Cho Dene First Nations that make their home in the Northwest Territories of Canada have long resisted development of their lands. But now tribal leaders have signed agreements to consider exploration.

The big deal, however, remains elusive. Oil companies and Canadian officials want to build a $3.5 billion natural gas pipeline that would cross Native territory. The Deh Cho people are the only holdouts in the arrangement.
