Absentee Shawnee leader Edwards passes away

Absentee Shawnee Gov. James Lee Edwards passed away early this morning, The Native American Times reports.

Edwards suffered a heart attack while driving last week. He was hospitalized in critical condition and was taken off life support yesterday.

Services are scheduled at First Baptist Church in Shawnee tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Lt. Governor Kenneth Blanchard will assume control of the tribe, The Native American Times said.
