USET meeting for annual conference in Conn.

The United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) is holding its annual conference on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Connecticut this week.

USET represents tribes from Maine to Florida and as far west as Texas. Yesterday, they heard from Mark C. Van Norman, executive director of the National Indian Gaming Association, about lobbying efforts on sovereignty and gaming issues. Tomorrow, Narragansett Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas will talk about his tribe's struggle with the state of Rhode Island.
