Tribal member, CIA employee, killed in Afghanistan
Wednesday, October 29, 2003

A member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana who was working for the CIA was killed in an ambush in Afghanistan, the CIA said on Tuesday.

William Carlson, 43, was one of two ex-Special Forces officers killed while tracking terrorists in the country, the CIA said. They were involved in a six-hour gunfight between Taliban rebels and U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces on Saturday, the CIA said.

Carlson lived in North Carolina but his uncle told The Great Falls Tribune that he would return to the Blackfeet Reservation for ceremonies and other events.
