Hunters upset about Bush drilling plan in Rockies
Tuesday, November 4, 2003

Hunters in the West are upset about the Bush administration's plans to drill in the Rocky Mountain Front.

Seven years ago, the Clinton administration suspended new development in the Front, which covers a 2-million acres from Montana to New Mexico. The Bush administration hasn't reversed the decision, but is considering allowing oil and gas drilling under existing leases.

Hunting groups in Montana worry that development will harm wildlife. Bears, deer, elk and other animals come down from the mountains into the Front.

Part of the Front includes the Two Badger Medicine Area, considered sacred by the Blackfeet Nation of Montana.
