Lawmakers agree on issue holding up energy bill
Thursday, November 6, 2003

Two lawmakers resolved their differences over a provision holding up the energy policy legislation.

Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) were in disagreement over tax breaks for ethanol producers. Vice President Dick Cheney was said to intervene to resolve the dispute.

The energy bill has been delayed for months over a number of contentious provisions, some of which remain unresolved.

The bill includes provisions to streamline development of Indian lands while limiting the federal government's trust liability.
