Proclamation honors Native veterans in N.M.
Tuesday, November 11, 2003

The state of New Mexico proclaimed Monday as Native American Veterans Day with a ceremony at the statehouse.

The proclamation was made by Veterans Services Secretary John Garcia but is not permanent. A Navy veteran wants Gov. Bill Richardson (D) to make the day permanent.

Veterans from Santo Domingo Pueblo are taking the proclamation back to their reservation, where it will be put on display.
