Report cites low river flows in Klamath fishkill
Wednesday, November 19, 2003

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Tuesday released its report on the Klamath River fishkill.

The report says a combination of factors contributed to the deaths of more than 33,000 salmon in September 2002. It cites low water flows, warm water temperatures and a large number of fish.

The Yurok Tribe blames the Bush administration's water management policies on the fishkill. In response to complaints by non-Indian farmers, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton reversed a decision that favored the tribe and the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
