Wis. tribe would settle land claim for N.Y. casino
Thursday, November 20, 2003

The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin said it would drop its land claim in New York for casino rights there.

The tribe purchased two properties in the state, including 84 acres for a casino in the Catskills. The tribe says it is working with Gov. George Pataki (R) to resolve gaming and land issues.

The Oneidas of Wisconsin, New York, and Ontario, Canada, are part of a 250,000-acre land claim. The New York Oneidas say their relatives can't assert rights in the state.
