Skeen, former Congressman from N.M., hospitalized
Thursday, December 4, 2003

Recently retired U.S. Congressman Joe Skeen (R) has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.

As head of the appropriations subcommittee that handled the Department of Interior, Skeen shepherded bills providing funding for Indian programs. In his last two years of office, he and Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) sought to limit an historical accounting for Indian beneficiaries.

Skeen retired in 2002 due to Parkinson's disease.
