NIGC agrees Cayuga Nation land is Indian Country
Friday, December 12, 2003

The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) has approved Class II gaming on land acquired by the Cayuga Nation of New York.

The tribe recently repurchased land within its land claim area. Citing recent court decisions, the tribe says the land is Indian Country, free from state and local jurisdiction. NIGC agreed, an attorney for the tribe said.

Officials in Union Springs are contesting the tribe's jurisdiction.
