The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs hosts an oversight hearing titled “The Long Journey Home: Advancing the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act’s Promise After 30 Years of Practice.”
The House Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance holds a hearing entitled “NAHASDA Reauthorization: Addressing Historic Disinvestment and the Ongoing Plight of the Freedmen in Native American Communities.”
“These investments will help many Native American, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian communities gain long overdue access to life-saving technologies, economic opportunities, remote learning and countless other benefits,” said Secretary Raimondo.
“Expanding broadband to our communities is not just a game changer – it is a life changer to tribal communities like mine and all Tribal Nations across the country,” said Treasurer Shannon Holsey of the National Congress of American Indians.
“We can’t talk about jobs and infrastructure without acknowledging that many of America’s original residents are living without clean water,” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg told tribal leaders during a meeting about the American Jobs Plan.
