The House Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance holds a hearing entitled “NAHASDA Reauthorization: Addressing Historic Disinvestment and the Ongoing Plight of the Freedmen in Native American Communities.”
“These investments will help many Native American, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian communities gain long overdue access to life-saving technologies, economic opportunities, remote learning and countless other benefits,” said Secretary Raimondo.
“Expanding broadband to our communities is not just a game changer – it is a life changer to tribal communities like mine and all Tribal Nations across the country,” said Treasurer Shannon Holsey of the National Congress of American Indians.
“We can’t talk about jobs and infrastructure without acknowledging that many of America’s original residents are living without clean water,” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg told tribal leaders during a meeting about the American Jobs Plan.
“For too long, tribal nations have been denied a seat at the table where decisions were made that impacted their lives and their land,” a key Democrat said in discussing the historic nomination of Deb Haaland.
