Subsistence board makes changes

THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2002 The Federal Subsistence Board has taken some recent actions. The board rejected a proposal to classify brown and black bears as fur bearers. This would have allowed the sale of bear hides, claws and other parts. The board approved a proposal to require some hunters to destroy sheep horns. This is aimed at increasing the harvest of village residents. The board tabled a proposal to allow hunting of cows and bulls of the Nelchina caribou herd. Get the Story:
