The Seneca Nation of New York received a warm welcome from the city of Buffalo, whose council is rescinding a resolution that endorse a non-tribal casino.

A new resolution is being passed to express complete support for the tribe, which is still finalizing its land-into-trust application for Buffalo. Under a compact approved by the state Legislature and Seneca tribal members, the tribe can open two off-reservation casinos.

The tribe is moving on its land-into-trust application for Niagara Falls, where local support is great, according to a poll by The Buffalo News. A temporary casino could be open by the end of the year, tribal officials hope.

Residents nearer to Buffalo are less enthusiastic about a casino in their neigborhood, the paper's poll found.
