The Department of Justice on Tuesday filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force.

The Bush administration contends the lawsuit oversteps constitutional bounds. The General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, filed the challenge in order to compel the release of certain documents from the task force.

Environmental groups filed similar lawsuits against the Department of Energy over the energy plan. The department has released tens of thousands of e-mails, documents and reports, though largely redacted.
