MONDAY, MAY 27, 2002 In an editorial, Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) calls on the Bush administration and Congress to put a halt to the spread of gaming, especially in Indian Country. Wolf charges that gaming benefits very few in Indian Country. "Defenders of Indian gambling never seem to talk about this disparity," he writes. Wolf wants the Bureau of Indian Affairs to stop recognizing tribes while it reforms the federal acknowledgment process. He believes it has become politically charged and tied too closely to gaming interests. Wolf also introduced legislation to require all state legislatures to approve Indian gaming compacts.
