Whaling tradition being lost

Japan launched an attack last week on the United States and Russia by leading the charge against traditional Native hunting in the face of its own dwindling whaling culture.

More than half of Japanese ages 20 to 24 don't eat whale meat, according to a recent news poll. The majority of young people also oppose their country's return to commercial whaling.

Japan's whaling culture dates back thousands of years. The country conducts a "scientific" hunt to the outrage of the United States.

The hypocrisy, as Japan puts it, led to the campaign to vote down a hunting quota for Inupiat Eskimos and Russian Natives at the International Whaling Commission.
