The Bureau of Land Management on Friday auctioned off 157 head of cattle seized from a tribal cattle association in Nevada.

The head went for $27,444. The Te-Moak Tribe, part of the Western Shoshone Nation, said the cattle was worth $100,000.

The tribe tried to stop the auction in court. A federal judge on Friday morning refused but said the money should be held while legal issues are resolved.

The tribe claims the land under an 1863 treaty. The BLM says the tribe owes $2.5 million in grazing permit fees.
