TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2002

A New Mexico man on Monday admitted to killing a Navajo teen but said he was drunk and confused at the time.

Sean Murphy, 18, was sentenced to 40 years in prison by a Colorado judge for the death of Fred "F.C." Martinez. Martinez, 16, was described as gay and transgendered by friends and family.

Martinez's mother believes the June 2001 killing was a hate crime.
