The Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota asked a federal judge on Wednesday to stop all work at a site where the remains of two children and a woman were removed without prior notification.

The remains were discovered by workers at an Army Corps of Engineer sites along the Missouri River. The state moved the bones off-site on May 14 but didn't notify affected tribes until May 23.

The state claims it has done no wrong and that it was protecting the remains by removing them. The tribe wants them immediately returned.
