Native Americans turned out to support a tribal member running for governor of South Dakota but not in large enough numbers to make a difference.

The reservation-level returns for Ron Volesky, a Democrat, were high. The state lawmaker received 70 percent of the vote on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, 57 percent on the Pine Ridge Reservation and 60 percent on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.

Volesky is a Standing Rock Sioux tribal member.
