Calif. off-shore drilling barred

THURSDAY, JULY 18, 2002 The House on Wednesday barred the Department of Interior from using funds for new drilling off the coast of California. An amendment by Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) cleared the chamber by a vote of 252 to 172. The Bush administration has limited off-shore drilling in Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The amendment was placed in the department's $19.7 billion spending bill. Get the Story:
