The potential recognition of several tribes in their backyard has residents in Connecticut worried.

A reported 250 went to a meeting of the Connecticut Citizens Against Casinos on Wednesday. The group opposes the spread of Indian gaming and was created in response to the pending acknowledgment of the Eastern Pequot Tribe.

"Now that the Pequots are recognized, we have the possible Nipmuc issue," a meeting attendee said, according to The Norwich Bulletin. "It becomes a big concern for northeastern Connecticut -- the Quiet Corner. That's too close for comfort."

Southeastern Connecticut officials are considering the potential impact of a third casino in the region. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe operate two successful facilities.
