Alaska youth wins Indian stick pull

A 14-year-old Alaskan won the Indian stick pull contest at the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics on Thursday.

John Miller, who hails from Barrow, competed in the event for the first time. The game involves a short stick that is greased with shortening.

Eli Kagak, another Barrow resident, won the the Eskimo stick pull, which involves a larger stick. The 400-pound hunter also competed in the Indian stick pull but lost to Miller.
