The Navajo Nation Supreme Court is expected to decide this week on the eligibility of a candidate for the presidential election.

Edward T. Begay, Speaker of the Navajo Nation Council, is challenging his disqualification from the ballot based on Navajo common law. He argues that he maintains a residence on the reservation although he primarily resides off tribal land.

The dispute has delayed a primary election, which also affects seats for the 88-member council.
