In an opinion piece published in The Washington Post, journalist Liza Featherstone criticizes the Green Party's nomination of Lakota Sioux tribal member Ed McGaa for U.S. Senate.

Featherstone says McGaa is an "amiable" choice but that he was chosen only because of his race. "Despite having no connection to the Green Party, McGaa showed up at the Minnesota Greens nominating convention and on the fourth ballot won more than two-thirds of the delegates on the basis of his quirky questionnaire answers and his ethnic identity," she writes.

Featherstone also says McGaa's views -- while interesting -- on Leonard Peltier, women and Native spirituality in politics aren't the stuff of great political campaigns.
