TUESDAY, JULY 30, 2002

"Fired from jobs they loved by an administrator and directors they despised, three physicians are planning to open a new clinic in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis in September.

The three docs, Lydia Caros, Carol Krush and Lori Banaszak, seemed to be uniquely suited for their work at the Indian Health Board (IHB) Clinic. But despite long years of service -- Krush had been at the clinic since it opened in 1974 -- and national reputations for good works, the three were fired for what IHB officials described as "insubordination."

Firings and resignations under duress are not new at the clinic, which is the oldest urban Indian health clinic in the country. . ."
