Tribal elections are always filled with drama so it should be fitting that the one for the Navajo Nation, the largest tribe, has lots of it.

There was the dispute over Edward T. Begay's candidacy. He was disqualified for maintaining an off-reservation home but the Navajo Nation Supreme Court ordered him back on the ballot.

Begay was singled out because of his position as Navajo Nation Council Speaker, the ruling and his supporters say. Now, he's controlling funds for the election and the people who had kicked him off the ballot.

"Navajo is Navajo," Begay says.
