N.M. tribes face water rights questions

Tribal water rights account for 60 percent of the allocation in the San Juan Basin of New Mexico.

But that doesn't mean tribes in the area are getting what they need. The Jicarilla Apache Nation, for instance, is entitled to water but is limited by endangered species protections.

The Navajo Nation is taking less than it is allocated. But there are places on the reservation that lack adequate water.
