Minn. tribe plans forest fund

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2002 The Red Lake Nation of Minnesota is using a $53 settlement to restore a once-thriving forest whittled down from 60,000 to 10,000 acres. The tribe will dedicate $40 million to the project. It is expected to take about 50 years and 1 million seedlings per year to restore the forest to its early 1900s status, before the Bureau of Indian Affairs cut down the timber. Get the Story:
