Halt to land-into-trust decisions sought

THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 2002 Connecticut's Congressional delegation is being asked to halt all pending land-into-trust decisions at the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The leaders of 11 towns sent a letter to Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman and Christopher Dodd, both Democrats, and Rep. Rob Simmons, a Republican. The towns say land-into-trust was meant for tribes in the West and not in the "populated" East. Get the Story:
