Judge puts a halt to drilling at monument

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2002 A federal judge on Tuesday issued a temporary injunction to block drilling in the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument of Colorado. The Department of Interior approved an exploratory development project that environmentalists say will destroy the monument's ancient Puebloan ruins. The drilling was set to start next week. U.S. District Judge Lewis Babcock scheduled an August 27 hearing to discuss the issue. Get the Story:
