Members of the Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Tribe of North Dakota deserve a strong tribal government, The Grand Forks Herald in an editorial today.

The paper says recent scandals involving tribal leadership affirm the need for "good government." The paper writes: "Indian tribes enjoy a special status and sovereignty in the United States. But sovereignty doesn't exempt them from the need to run good governments."

Several past and present tribal officials have been indicted for stealing tribal money and other crimes. Richard Monette has been ousted as chairman and wants his job back.
