Only BIA firefighters take drug tests

MONDAY, AUGUST 26, 2002 The Bureau of Indian Affairs is the only federal agency that requires all fire fighters to submit to drug tests. The U.S. Forest Service tests employees suspected of drug use and new hires. But contract fire fighters aren't tested at all. The Bureau of Land Management, part of the Department of Interior, does random drug testing of seasonal and permanent fire crews. BIA crews say the policy singles them out. There were fewer recruits on two Montana reservation this year due to the requirement. Get the Story:
