Ute chairman tries to withdraw plea

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2002 A Southern Ute tribal judge on Tuesday refused to allow Chairman Leonard C. Burch to withdraw his guilty plea for drunk driving. Burch tried to withdraw based on information that the arresting tribal officer failed to follow proper procedures. The unnamed officer didn't perform blood-alcohol test or roadside tests. Burch's term is up in November. In related tribal news, vice chairman Clement Frost has resigned. No reason was given. Get the Story:
