The Duwamish Tribe of Washington is hosting The Spirit Returns Paddle this weekend to commemorate its historical relations with non-Indians.

The canoe paddle is significant to the tribal and tribal members because of their lack of federal recognition. The Bush administration turned down the tribe last fall.

The two-day festival starts Saturday and includes races, dances, food and other events. It marks the end of Seattle's sesquicentennial celebration.

Chief Seattle was a Duwamish chief.
