FBI can't find terrorist email records
THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 2002

A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the FBI to explain why its investigation of the only person arrested in connection with the September 11 terrorist attacks contains no record of alleged e-mail transactions.

Zacarias Moussaoui says he used an e-mail account xdesertman@hotmail.com prior to his arrest. But the FBI has no documentation of the account, even though part of its probe focused on Moussaoui's computer use.

The Microsoft Network, which owns the Hotmail system, doesn't have records of the account because it was apparently deactivated.
