Ariz. tribe elects first woman president

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2002 Joni Ramos was elected the first female president of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Tribe of Arizona. Ramos was chosen from a field of four. She received 303 of the 901 votes. Incumbent Ivan Makil did not run. Get the Story:
