Secretary of Interior Gale Norton is being warned not to take land into trust for the Seneca Nation of New York.

The tribe needs trust land for two off-reservation casinos. The facilities would be located in Niagara Falls and Buffalo.

Rep. John J. LaFalce (D-N.Y.) in a letter to Norton said a lawsuit was all but guaranteed if the Bush administration approved land in Niagara Falls. He referred to a federal judge's ruling that the tribe's aboriginal land did not include the region.

Cornelius D. Murray, an anti-gaming attorney, wrote to Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb and made the same argument.
