Gregg Bourland, longtime chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, failed to advance in the tribe's recent primary election.

Bourland was seeking a fourth term. He was first elected in 1990.

The top vote getters were Harold Frazier and Wayne Ducheneaux. They will compete in a November 5 general election.
