FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2002

A woman from the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is headed to federal court to seek participation in the Miss America pageant.

Rebekah Revels won the state beauty title but it was revoked by pageant officials after they were told of revealing photos. A state judge, however, restored her crown on Wednesday.

The Miss America pageant in the meantime awarded a contract to Misty Clymer to compete in the national contest. The pageant considers Clymer to be the official North Carolina representative.
