Navajo Nation President Kelsey Begaye got less than half the votes of his main challenger, according to primary results reported by The Farmington Daily-Times.

Results from 108 of 110 chapter houses showed that Begaye received 7,257 votes. Front-runner Joe Shirley had 15,910 votes.

That means Begaye and Shirley will face each other in the general election, scheduled for November 5. Registration ends October 6.

Official primary results will be certified in 30 days.
