Neb. gaming supporters face deadline

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2002

Supporters of expanded gaming in Nebraska are rushing to meet a deadline to have their voter initiative placed on the November ballot.

The state ballot needs to be certified by Friday and absentee ballots have to be printed by September 30. Gaming supporters are appealing a judge's ruling to keep the video slot initiative alive.

If approved, video slot machines would be allowed at bars, restaurants, race tracks and keno parlors. Tribes would also be able to offer the same games, something they cannot do currently.
