Terminated tribe seeks status again

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2002 The Strawberry Valley Band of Pakan'yani Maidu Indians was terminated in 1961 and is seeking to regain its federal status. The tribe wants Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) to introduce a bill to reaffirm its status. There are about 250 members. The tribe worries gaming might complicate matters. The Enterprise Rancheria wants to open a casino in Maidu aboriginal territory. Get the Story:
