THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2002

Opponents of a telescope project on a sacred mountain in Arizona held a protest on Wednesday.

The protesters want Hubbard Broadcasting CEO Stanley Hubbard to withdraw financial support of the Mt. Graham observatory. He donated $5 million to the effort.

Apache, Hopi, Navajo and other tribes oppose the Mt. Graham observatory. They have asked various schools and lead sponsor University of Arizona not to erect telescopes on the land, which is considered sacred and is home to numerous species.
