Republican members on the joint House-Senate energy policy conference committee proposed what is termed a "compromise" to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

According to The Washington Post, the "compromise" limits oil and gas drilling to a 2,000-acre footprint. Development will not occur unless environmental studies ensure minimal impact.

Democrats on the Senate side are mostly in opposition to ANWR drilling. Some Republicans in the Senate are also in disagreement on what a compromise should look like.
