DOI wants to flood Grand Canyon

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2002 The Department of Interior plans to flood the Grand Canyon next year in hopes of saving native species of fish. Scientists hope the flood will protect species like the humpback chub. They also want to rid the Colorado River of non-native species believed to prey on the chub. The canyon was previously flooded in 1996. According to The Arizona Republic, the plan "produced inconclusive results and temporary benefits." Get the Story:
